Job Description
Linux Engineer:
A leading Financial Services company in the city of London is seeking a Linux Engineer to be part of the Infrastructure Operations and Engineering team that support over 700 systems running RHEL v6 & v7 on a mix of physical servers and virtual machines running on VMware.
This person will provide day to day Operational production support, incident management and routine maintenance for the Linux infrastructure, covering all aspects of Linux system administration.
Key responsibilities:
- Ensuring all Linux systems meet their SLAs for availability and performance.
- Investigation and timely resolution of incidents and problems on Linux servers.
- Ensuring system backups complete, and performing adhoc restores as required.
- Performing security and maintenance patching and major system updates
- Working closely with the Engineering teams to help build and deliver new systems.
- Providing technical expertise to other teams within Infrastructure and Operations but also to the wider teams across IT.
- Being the escalation point for technical issues that the less experienced engineers are unable to resolve
About you:
- 5 years of Linux support including strong, recent experience of supporting Red Hat Linux (v6 & 7)
- Desirable experience of NetApp Cluster Data ONTAP v9, Red Hat Satellite v6, Veritas Netbackup v8, Nagios/OP5 monitoring.
- Ability to quickly and effectively troubleshooting technical issues.
- Willing to learn new technologies.
- Able to work effectively within a small team.
This is a permanent role based in London, operating on shift patterns covering 7:00-18:00 Monday- Friday.

- Knowledge of a wide variety of technologies including several of the disciplines in strategic IT architecture covering either application, infrastructure, data or security architecture with evidenced practice of at least two domains.
- Any experience of working across Financial Service is beneficial, but not essential

Application Support Lead (Fixed Income) - Financial Services
Sterlings are currently partnered with an Investment Bank who are looking to hire a Senior Application Support Analyst Lead, to join their Front Office Technology Team.
This person will lead the support team who provide support and maintenance across various desks and multiple asset classes including credit and interest rate derivatives, credit default swaps, currency swaps and interest rate swaps and well as cash equities.
The team are also responsible for helping improve processes, fixes and enhancements, and Co-ordinate software releases in UAT and Production environments.
Other duties include updating support documentation and owning the development once released.
This person will operate as a Player/Coach, bringing to the table a mix of hands-on technical and business knowledge, people leadership, project and communication skills, developing deep knowledge of applications, architecture, up and downstream flows, as well as being a critical esculation point.
Experience required;
- Strong Application Support experience within a Financial Trading environment.
- Solid Supervisory / Management / team leadership experience in technology support of Capital Markets trading and related functions.
- Solid business knowledge of derivative products (interest rate swaps, credit default swaps, exchange traded futures and options, convertible bonds).
- Proven technical analysis and investigatory skills with ability to work within a high-pressured environment. Stack includes Ulinx/Linux and SQL Server

Application Support (German Speaking) - Investment Bank
A Bank in the City of London is currently seeking a German speaking, Application Support Analyst to help support multiple applications across Back Office systems.
The Application support person will be responsible for BAU /Triage, 1st /2nd line support to ensure high availability of supported applications for internal and external customers. The team also manage upgrades / patching to ensure supported software is in place.
Other tasks involve providing audit and compliance information as requested by stakeholders, as well ensuring SLA's are met and working closely with vendors, building key relationships.
Experience Required;
- Proven Application Support skills
- German speaker
- Windows / SQL Statement writing
- Management of change in a complex environment
- Working across multiple branches to support key applications
- Knowledge of SWIFT, MQ, Financial Services experience is beneficial
